illiterates

Based out of Los Angeles and Atlanta, illiterates recently released their debut LP Makeout Mountain, produced by Matt McCalvin (Gringo Star, Zoners, St. Pe), on September 7th via Baby Robot Records. Previously, illiterates have worked with Ed Rawls (Black Lips, Coathangers, Deerhunter), have shared bills with Richie Ramone, Blackfoot Gypsies, Vincas & more, and have been featured at PunkNews, New Noise, Creative Loafing, Punktastic, Surviving the Golden Age & more.

Gringo Star

Gringo Star’s Controlled Burn is a 14-track live album recorded at The Earl, one of Atlanta’s premier rock & roll clubs, in September of 2018. The career-spanning setlist serves as a 10 year retrospective, compiling popular singles and deep cuts from all of their albums into one frenzied, sweaty celebration of Gringo Star’s music, performed before a rabid hometown audience. There’s a palpable electricity that permeates all of Controlled Burn.

SP’s

Rise/Fall blends '80s and '90s punk with elements of modern garage and psych rock, but it’s part of a songwriting tradition that goes even further into the past, drawing a line straight back to Woody Guthrie, whose bold anthems for the marginalized and working poor would become the backbone of political punk, from The Clash, Subhumans and Crass to Downtown Boys, Against Me! and Pussy Riot. In this spirit, SP’s pull no punches.

Mail The Horse

New York roots-rockers Mail the Horse are gearing up to release their new self-titled LP, out November 22nd via Baby Robot Records. Since announcing the release, the band has been featured at PopMatters, Americana UK, QRO Magazine, Spotify's "Fresh Folk," Atwood Magazine & more, with Atwood premiering the latest single "Kid Gloves" and calling it, "A raw and bluesy critique of toxic and fragile masculinity full of soulful and heartfelt ire."

Coma Girls

Chris Spino—the creative force behind LA indie/folk-rock project Coma Girls—has been going through some changes. In fact, Coma Girls’ entire history has been marked by metamorphosis. From Spino’s turn away from his roots to the lo-fi/neo-garage style of 2015’s self-titled debut, to the jangly alt-country of “Smoking Gun,” the 7-inch that chronicled his move to LA, and the psych-folk of 2021’s Skyboxer that mined the trenches of addiction, Coma Girls’ releases have consistently been characterized by Spino’s own personal and musical reinvention.

Bee Appleseed

Following his 2018 debut Backpacker Blues, Bee Appleseed returns with his sophomore solo effort, Starflower's Cosmic Soul. Though he has a decade's worth of touring and lo-fi bootleg folk recordings under his belt, there are only rare hints of the latter on this heavy-hitting rock & roll odyssey that aims to transport listeners through a vortex of timeless space and catchy melodies.

Hollow FortyFives

Los Angeles rock & roll power trio Hollow Fortyfives understand the value of a break from the day-to-day grind of modern living. With their new EP, Weekender, (out March 6th on Baby Robot Records.) The trio has created a rollicking, hard-hitting ode to time off; a soundtrack not simply suited to, but crafted to incite house parties, late nights, impulsive trips and the specific type of debauchery that inevitably creates camaraderie.

8 Inch Betsy

Chicago punk outfit 8 Inch Betsy played aggressive lyric-driven rock with an equal debt to riot grrl ideals, snotty ‘90s pop punk and the heart-on-your-sleeve honesty of artists like PJ Harvey & Nina Nastasia. Earlier this year, frontwoman and primary songwriter Meghan Galbraith passed away at the age of 35, leaving in her wake a legacy of love, camaraderie and a finished album that—until now—had gone unreleased to streaming platforms.

HESS

HESS, better known as Michael Hesslein, principal songwriter and vocalist for New York roots-rockers Mail the Horse, shared Lamplight Motel's lead single "I'll Drive," which Floated Magazine praised as having, "A chilled-out dance vibe and the umami of driving down the highway with the top down at the same time. It easily can fit the bill of dance packed room or a dark velvet highway alone." "I'll Drive" is out everywhere today.

K. Michelle DuBois

With her latest album, titled The Fever Returns, Atlanta-based singer, guitar player, and songwriter K Michelle DuBois pushes the boundaries of her Southern-inflected indie pop songs toward mysterious new and nocturnal terrain. Throughout the album, unlikely musical bedfellows—highly cultivated guitar tones, boundless pop production, and metaphysical imagery—placed side by side form singularly pleasing and full-bodied combinations.
